There was Girl Power all over Wall Street today, as women in the financial industry marked International Women’s Day by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Representatives from the nonprofit group Women in ETFs, which aims to create opportunities for women in the industry, kicked off the trading day in New York. Women in ETFs partnered with the United Nations to ring bells at more than 30 stock exchanges around the world. ‘Over the past few days, many exchanges have said they want to be part of it next year, ‘ Deborah Fuhr, Founder of ETF research firm ETFGI. The hope is, that more women will consider careers in finance. ‘Women are woefully underrepresented in finance and since women live longer, we are going to need financial products that are creative to help sustain us in retirement. So we need more women creating these financial products,’ said Kathleen Smith, a founder at IPO research and investing firm Renaissance Capital.
