In its latest effort to combat motor neuron disease, Intel is releasing the software in physicist Professor Stephen Hawking’s newly-designed communications system to the public in January. Hawking, who suffers from the disease and is mostly paralyzed, is able to perform simple tasks like typing, browsing the Web and opening emails ten times faster thanks to Intel’s new technology. Some 3 million people suffer from motor neuron disease and while Intel worked closely to design a system for Professor Hawking, the technology serves as a template for further development. TheStreet's Scott Gamm speaks with Horst Haussecker, Principal Engineer at Intel's Computational Imaging Lab.
