Robert Lighthizer will lead the Office of the United States Trade Representative, working alongside Wilbur Ross (nominated as Secretary of Commerce) to try and cut the U.S. deficit and to keep jobs from being shipped overseas. Lighthizer will likely be key in re-writing trade deals, such as the hot-button North American Free Trade Agreement. Unlike many of Trump's other appointees, Lighthizer is well-versed in government. He served in the Reagan administration as deputy United States trade representative, helping to develop trade policies and to negotiate international trade agreements. Similar to Trump, Lighthizer has been critical of China.
