Inside the Trump White House: David Shulkin
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated David Shulkin to be the next Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Shulkin is an internist and has a medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Believe it or not, Shulkin currently serves under the Obama administration as VA undersecretary.
Shulkin has led the enormous veterans' health system -- the country's largest heath system, with 1,700 clinics and hospitals -- for 18 months.
Prior to moving into government, Shulkin was president and CEO of Beth Israel Medical Center in New York from 2005 to 2009 and president of Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, N.J., from 2010 to 2015.
If Shulkin is confirmed, he would be the first VA secretary not to be a veteran himself.
