Carl Icahn, a longtime friend of President-elect Donald Trump, will not take a salary in his new role as Special Adviser to the President. He will likely be a key player in Trump's Cabinet, possibly rolling back heavy-handed Wall Street regulations.

One of the first activist investors on Wall Street, Icahn is chairman of New York-based Icahn Enterprises and began his Wall Street career in 1961. He has had many high-profile boardroom dust-ups, notably one with rival Bill Ackman over Herbalife (HLF) - Get Report .

Icahn made money on Netflix (NFLX) - Get Report , in which he reportedly took a 10% stake in 2012 for a cost of $321 million, then netted $850 million by selling a little more than half in 2013. In June 2015, Icahn sold the rest of the position, bringing in another $2 billion.

According to Forbes, Icahn has a net worth of more than $17.1 billion.
