Restaurants and retail CEOs attending the ICR XChange Conference in Orlando, Florida had their eyes set on some key themes to watch coming into the new year. Low gas prices were on everyone’s minds, with major CEOs optimistic that consumers may increase their restaurant and retail purchases thanks to the extra cash in their pockets. John Miller, CEO of Denny’s, said, “ It may be a billion dollars a day being put back in the economy. It’s hard to imagine that that's not helping all retail and restaurants.” Another big theme at the conference was expansion, both within the United States and internationally. And digital innovation was a key talking-point, with restaurants looking at enhancing online menus and transitioning from traditional broadcast advertising to an online platform. Ken Calwell, CEO of Papa Murphy’s International, said, “Our digital marketing presence and social media presence are both very important to the millennial audience.” Overall, the outlook in the restaurant and retail space appeared positive as reported to TheStreet in Orlando, Florida.
