The cruise industry is suffering from the rising omicron cases across the United States.
As of December 28, the Center for Disease Control is actively investigating or monitoring over 80 cruise ships. The list includes ships from Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL) - Get Carnival Corporation Report, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCLH) - Get Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. Report, and Disney Cruise Lines.
Democratic Senator Richard Blumental demanded the ships be docked calling them "petri dishes of COVID infection."
The outbreak is taking a toll on stocks of major players such as Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, which are all trading lower in intraday trading on Wednesday, December 29.
