Nutrisystem faces stiff competition from Weight Watchers after TV host Oprah Winfrey revealed she lost 40 pounds using Weight Watchers.
With New Year's resolutions in focus, many of them health-related, Nutrisystem (NTRI) - Get Report is out in full force trying to lure consumers with lofty health goals. But the company is facing stiff competition from Weight Watchers (WTW) - Get Report , which boasts TV star Oprah Winfrey on the cover of Weight Watchers magazine, saying she lost over 40 pounds on the plan.
Dawn Zier, Nutrisystem's president and CEO, brushed off Winfrey's publicity and touted Nutrisystem's ownership of the South Beach Diet brand. Zier also commented on competition from the Apple (AAPL) - Get Report Health app and Fitbit (FIT) - Get Report .
