Global stocks can play an important role in your portfolio.

"Diversification is one of the key insights of all financial theory," said Michael Hanson, SVP, Research at Fisher Investments. "The idea that you can blend assets together but still get the return of the stock market is such a key insight - but what people don't do enough of is think globally about it: you can get the long-term return of the stock market, but blended with global stocks is a smoother ride over time."

Hanson said Europe and certain parts of Asia are younger in their economic cycles than the United States.

On May 22, TheStreet will present a live webinar called "How to Stomach Market Volatility" hosted by Fisher Investments. The exclusive live webinar will give you the tools to successfully navigate market volatility and discuss why having a wealth manager is more critical than ever before.
