Happy women's equality day.
Abbott Labs (ABT) - Get Report , had a team of high-school interns and Corlis Murray, Abbott's senior vice president of quality assurance, regulatory and engineering services, talked to TheStreet about empowering the younger generation who are interested in STEM careers as well as how important it is to actively seek diversity in the workplace.
Murray explained how companies can empower the younger generation who are interested in going into STEM careers.
Here's what Murray had to say.
"I think one of the key ways that we can help to empower women as well as others to pursue STEM careers is really helping to sort of demystify it if you will. Often, what's not understood is what these fields are really about. The vastness of opportunity that exists within the fields and by exposing them to the wide range of things that actually are there for them to pursue, then they're able to find things that they love, that they're passionate about and that they will go on to really be successful," said Murray.
