TD Ameritrade’s (AMTD) Investor Movement Index showed clients were net buyers of equities in July. According to the data, oil producers like Conoco Phillips (COP), Exxon Mobil (XOM), Chevron (CVX) and Chesapeake Energy (CHK) were popular net buys as crude oil continued to weigh on equity prices. Other buys included Apple (AAPL) as its price moved lower following earnings and Netflix (NFLX) which got a bid following its 7 for 1 forward stock split. TD Ameritrade clients were net sellers of Google (GOOGL) as the share price surged to new highs and better-than-expected earnings. Financial stocks like Citigroup ( C ) and MasterCard (MA) were also sells, as well as General Electric (GE) and Alibaba (BABA). JJ Kinahan, Chief Strategist of TD Ameritrade, tells TheStreet’s Jill Malandrino that clients reallocated capital around earnings by taking profits in companies that surged on solid announcements, while it appeared that lower prices led to buying opportunities.
