Here's What Hillary Clinton Would Do for the U.S. Economy

Hillary Clinton is pushing for a minimum wage hike to $12 an hour, from its current Federal level of $7.25. That would boost the middle class and take the pressure off of the government to help those who can’t make ends meet, says Harry Stein, director of fiscal policy at the Washington, D.C.-based Center for American Progress. ‘Raising the minimum wage to $12 an hour would save $5.3 billion a year in food stamp costs alone,’ he added. Clinton also referenced the challenges surrounding the ‘gig economy,’ in a July speech in New York, largely referring to the rise of companies like Uber. ‘What Clinton said is that the rise of this field creates a lot of innovation but also challenges dealing with workplace protections like unemployment insurance and workers compensation,’ he said. Drivers for companies like Uber work as they please and are thus not entitled to health insurance or the aforementioned benefits.
