Why Whole Foods Could Be Acquired
It would make sense for someone to be a buyer.
"The availability of natural and organic food at conventional grocery stores has increased in recent years," according to William Blair's Ryan Domyancic. Domyancic said that could make Whole Foods (WFM) an attractive acquisition target.
Whole Foods has low market share, has industry-leading expertise in prepared foods, a strong store footprint, a powerful brand and the ability to compete in urban and suburban markets, Domyancic said. And, as TheStreet's Brian Sozzi has written, the company's recent management shake-up and pummeled stock price could catch the attention of an outside party.
