Alphabet (GOOGL) - Get Report   (then called Google) paid $500 million to purchase satellite imaging group Skybox in 2014. It is now close to selling it. Google's $3.2 billion purchase of smart-thermometer maker Nest Labs seemed to plug right in to the company's massive data engine and home networking ambitions, but the acquisition has drawn heat.
