3D printing is taking off and is set to disrupt a host of major industries, according to one expert. Some $27 billion will be spent in 3D printers in 2019, compared to roughly $11 billion last year, per data from IDC. A report from PwC suggests over two-thirds of manufacturers are using 3D printing. 'The early stage use was principally in research and development and prototyping,' said Bob McCutcheon, the U.S. industrials leader for PwC. 'That's shifted a lot in the last several years - we're moving out of prototyping and into mainstream production in a lot of different ways so I think the technology has evolved pretty rapidly.' He believes 3D printing could shake up various industries, such as automotive and aerospace. TheStreet's Scott Gamm reports from Wall Street.
