Prices for Valentine's Day related items rose 0.6% in 2016, less than the headline consumer price index, but down from the 15-year average of 1.95%, according to LPL Research. Jewelry prices skyrocketed in 2016, rising 5.8%, largely amid higher gold prices, according to John Canally, chief economist strategist at LPL Financial. Canally said the best deal for Valentine's Day is a night in with your significant other. Consumers are expected to spend $18.2 billion on Valentine's Day related items, according to the National Retail Federation. TheStreet's Scott Gamm reports from Wall Street.
