Heineken is in talks to buy Brazil's second-largest brewery from Japan's Kirin (KNBWY) . This comes as Japanese breweries fight falling sales in their home market where there's been an almost 50% decline in domestic beer sales since 2001.
"These discussions are ongoing and there can be no certainty that an agreement will be reached," according to a company statement. Heineken could pay ¥100 billion for Brazil Kirin in December. This follows the Dutch brewer's recent purchase of British chain Punch Taverns for £403 million.
