Guardians of the Galaxy Highlights Slow Start to Fall Movie Season
The film industry wheezed its way out of the starting gates to begin the Fall movie season this past weekend, experiencing the slowest weekend of ticket sales in 13 years. The news piggybacks off last week's reports that showed Summer 2014 was the worst summer film season since 2006 with gross domestic ticket sales amassing $3.9 billion this summer, a nearly 20% drop from last year. One winner this past weekend, however, was Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy". It has continued its string of success, with this past weekend being the fourth consecutive weekend leading the box office. There are a few more movies set to come out this week, including "The Drop," which stars the late James Gandolfini in his final movie he filmed. Hollywood hopes that these will help bolster their recent struggles.
