Greek Prime Minister Faces New Backlash In Parliamentary Debate
Greek Prime minister Alexis Tsipras was faced with the tough job of defending the country's proposed bailout program to the Greek Parliament on Thursday, as his left wing Syriza party threatened rebellion. The draft bill which is set to be voted on, lays out a three year rescue plan worth around $93 billion in bailout loans. It also contains plans for unpopular spending cuts and tax increases that must be passed through the Greek parliament before being approved by other creditor countries. Thursday night's vote is expected to pass the bill, as Greece is left with few options and another debt repayment due on August 20th. But anti austerity demonstrators refused to be silenced, gathering outside the Greek Parliament to protest during the debate and the following vote.
