Greece's Former Finance Minister Has a Message for Angela Merkel & Mario Draghi
Greece's former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis was tasked with negotiating with the debt laden nation's eurozone creditors in 2015.
He worked with Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel, European Central Bank President Mario Draghi and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde.
The rise of populism in Europe via Marine Le Pen's popularity and the rise of the Alternative for Germany political party can be linked to policies from the aforementioned European leaders.
Varoufakis said these powerful leaders felt constrained to do what was right for Greece. In Varoufakis' mind, the proper course of action for Greece was to stop bailing the country out in order to pay for past debts. Instead, he felt the country's debt should be restructured to buy itself more time to fix its finances.
Varoufakis is author of the new book Adults In the Room, which details his brief tenure in 2015 as Greece finance minister.
