GOP Senate Win Sparked by Voter Disapproval of Obama and Congress
Republicans took back control of the U.S. Senate on Tuesday amid strong voter disapproval of President Barack Obama and his administration. Republican Mitch McConnell led the way to a new Senate majority, defeating Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky. Two-term incumbent Mark Pryor of Arkansas was the first Democrat to be unseated, losing to Republican Tom Cotton. Senator Mark Udall of Colorado lost to Republican Cory Gardner, while Senator Kay Hagan of North Carolina was defeated by Thom Tillis, the speaker of the state House. Voters interviewed after casting ballots expressed strong discontent with the Obama administration. Nearly two-thirds said the country was on the wrong track. More than four in ten disapproved of both Obama and Congress.
