Google Scraps First Click Free, Now What?
There is a quiet revolution happening online and it could change the world of new publishing. Both Google (GOOG) - Get Report and Facebook (FB) - Get Report have recently changed their policies when it comes to the paywalls that many news outlets use to generate revenue.
Google announced that it is ending its First Click Free program that allowed Google News readers to access paywalled content making converting subscriptions more difficult. Facebook also recently announced that it changing its news subscription program.
So does this mean millions of lost dollars will find their way back to news organizations? TheStreet Columnist Ken Doctor says that is a real possibility.
