Google Pursues Self-Driving Cars As Ex-Ford CEO Mulally Joins Board
It looks like Alan Mulally is stepping from one boardroom into another. Google says it has appointed the ex-Ford CEO to its board. The Silicon Valley tech giant hopes to gain expertise in automobiles as it develops driverless cars. Mulally retired from Ford on July 1 after spending eight years at the helm of the automaker where he was credited with making Ford the only major U.S. automaker that didn't need a government bailout during the financial crisis. Prior to his retirement, he was reportedly considered a contender for the CEO job at Microsoft. Mulally will join Google's audit committee. Mulally said in the statement, "I am honored to serve on the board of a global iconic company that is dedicated to enhancing our lives. I look forward to working together with the Google board and management team to continue to deliver their compelling vision." TheStreet's Julia Sun reports from New York.
