Google, Microsoft Jump as Stocks Close With Best Gains Since 2011
High-momentum tech stocks led a market rally on Wednesday. Among the best performers, Google (GOOGL) added nearly 8% and Microsoft (MSFT) jumped more than $2 a share. Markets rocketed higher in the final hour of trading and unlike on Tuesday, the gains stuck around into the close. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 enjoyed their biggest gains since November 2011. Syngenta (SYT) slumped after Monsanto (MON) confirmed it had withdrawn an acquisition offer worth roughly $47 billion. Syngenta had rejected several offers from the agricultural company. Transocean (RIG) fell after its board said it is looking to suspend its quarterly dividend payments for the remainder of the year. The offshore driller has recently suffered from plummeting sales tied to weaker oil prices.
