Alphabet's (GOOGL) - Get Report Google Chrome OS is now a thorn in Microsoft's (MSFT) - Get Report side, as the PC market is about to be flooded with Chromebooks that run Android apps. This will be a direct challenge to Microsoft's dominance of the market and its cash cow Windows.

It follows the recent unveiling by Samsung (SSNLF) of a pair of more powerful Android-capable Chromebooks and comes amid growing rumors that Google is planning to launch a new hybrid Chrome/Android OS called Andromeda later this year.

This is a big threat to Microsoft, at least in part because Google already benefits from the growing trend of consumers moving from computers to mobile devices.
