Google wants to join the music streaming party, and with a personal touch. The California based tech giant said it wants to acquire Songza, a music service that plays songs based on what you're doing or what mood you're in. Deal terms are not disclosed yet, but Google said Songza will stay as an independent app for the time being. Google clearly wants to ramp up its presence in music. S&P Capital IQ analyst Scott Kessler said, "Google is active across different media platforms, but it's fair to say people don't think of Google first when it comes to streaming music. Google sees it as an opportunity." Google passed on the leaders in the music world, namely Pandora and Spotify, and went for the much smaller Songza instead. Kessler believes Google and other large tech firms prefer less developed brands, so they can easily shape them. For that reason, he thinks that the leaders in music streaming could be vulnerable in the long run.
