Google, Apple & Yahoo Push Nasdaq's Declines on Volatile Trading
Stocks ended Tuesday's trading at their lows of the day. After initially dropping nearly 100 points, the Dow rose as much as 247 points, just to give it all up and close down 111 points. Stocks followed oil's moves. Crude prices fell to 5-year lows, then shot up more than a dollar a barrel. The rebound, however fizzed to settle with a gain of $0.02 a barrel. Energy was the best performing sector. Gainers included Transocean (RIG), Nabors Industries (NBR) and Denbury (DNR). Big names in tech contributed to the Nasdaq's decline. Google (GOOG) gave up more than 3.5%. Apple (AAPL) and Yahoo (YHOO) also finished with loses. Microsoft (MSFT) was a drag for both the Nasdaq and the Dow Industrials. The stock moved lower after Bank of America (BAC) downgraded the stock to an UNDERPERFORM rating. But a bullish analyst call helped GrubHub (GRUB) gain more than 4%.
