Google and Facebook Were Victims of a 2013 Payment Scam
Facebook and Google are said to be the two companies at the heart of a multi-million dollar accounting scam.
The Justice Department announced last month that two U.S. tech giants were scammed of $100 million. Fortune reported the previously undisclosed companies were Facebook (FB) - Get Report and Alphabet's Google (GOOGL) - Get Report . The 2013 scam involved fake email addresses, invoices & corporate stamps impersonating a large Asian-based manufacturer. Over two years, the scammer convinced Facebook and Google to transfer millions.
The thief was arrested by the Justice Department last month.
