One of this generation's best and most iconic golf players is tied to an insider trading probe involving shares of Dean Foods Co (DF). Authorities are looking into whether golfer Phil Mickelson got a tip about the dairy company spinning off subsidiary, WhiteWave Foods Co. (WWAV) back in 2012. Now, the federal probe into insider trading has some high profile names tangled up in a web. The investigation is looking into the possibility that ex-chairman of Dean Foods Thomas Davis tipped off Las Vegas bettor Billy Walters, who suggested the Dean Foods stock to Mickelson. This probe builds on one that started more than a year ago, searching for any evidence that Walters and Mickelson received non-public information from activist investor Carl Icahn.
