Goldman Sachs (GS - Get Report) financed and advised 162 deals in the first half of 2018, according to fresh data from TheStreet's sister publication The Deal.

Morgan Stanley (MS - Get Report) came in second place with 142 deals.

Going forward both are expected to focus on middle market M&A activity, something that traditionally was a focus for smaller investment banks, according to The Deal's co-editor Michael Brown.
