Goldman Sachs (GS) financed and advised 162 deals in the first half of 2018, according to fresh data from TheStreet's sister publication The Deal.

Morgan Stanley (MS) came in second place with 142 deals.

Going forward both are expected to focus on middle market M&A activity, something that traditionally was a focus for smaller investment banks, according to The Deal's co-editor Michael Brown.
