German Court Rules That YouTube Must Do More to Fight Infringement

Google's (GOOG) YouTube is said to have lost an appeal to a German regional court over steps the video-sharing Web site must take to reduce copyright infringement. A German regional court ruled that YouTube must take down material that infringes upon copyright law once it's been made aware of it, according to Reuters. The court said YouTube does not have to actively search for material that infringes upon copyright law. The court reportedly said in its ruling, 'If such a service provider has been made aware of a clear violation of the law, it must not only remove the content, but also take precautions to avoid further infringements of copyrights.' The case was brought against Google by German performing rights group Gema. TheStreet's Brittany Umar reports from New York.
