Gasoline Prices Continue to Slide at Summer End and Could Fall More
Some good news for U.S. drivers at the pump. Gas prices are continuing to move lower as the summer driving season comes to a close. According to the Lundberg Survey, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.46 on average. That's 12 cents or more than 3% cheaper than last year. Based on 2,500 gas station reports from all over the country, the survey concludes that drivers in San Francisco pay the most, about $3.88 a gallon, and drivers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana have the sweetest deal at $3.11 a gallon. Assuming there is no disruption to refineries in the coming months due to geopolitical conflicts, gas prices could go even lower. AAA expects another 10 to 20 cents cut a gallon before winter arrives. But the U.S. Energy Information Administration believes even if production takes a hit overseas, drivers here won't feel anything. Oil production in the U.S. has been setting records and they say that is enough to balance any potential refinery disruption around the world.
