Frozen Dolls Take Holiday Top Spot, Barbie's Popularity Cools
Barbie dolls have been dethroned as the nation's most popular toy for girls. The plastic princesses from Disney's 'Frozen' have ended Barbie's decade-long reign at the number one spot. The 'Frozen' dolls are the most coveted gifts for girls this holiday season, with 20% of parents planning to purchase the merchandise for their daughters. The survey from the National Retail Federation saw Mattel's Barbie frozen out of the top spot, chosen by only 17% of parents this year. Lego remained the most popular gift choice for boys. Barbie's waning appeal is a setback for Mattel. Sales of the doll dropped 21% in the most recent quarter. 'Frozen' is currently ranked as the highest-grossing animated film of all time, raking in almost $1.3 billion in ticket sales worldwide.
