Ford’s new concept car boasts a dramatic savings in weight thanks to the use of composite materials. Ford’s Vice President of Engineering, Kumar Galhotra, said the aim is to squeeze as much weight as possible out of the entire line up of cars. The concept car is built on the Ford Fusion frame which is already in production. But through the use of so composites the goal is to make the car 800 pounds lighter than the models that are already on the road. According to Ford, lower weight should not mean less performance. Six lightweight concept cars have been built. Two will be used as crash test models to gauge safety. TheStreet's Sergio Quintana reports from San Francisco.
