Ford is bringing new car models to Africa and the Middle East as it looks to capture the hearts of young and affluent drivers. The automaker announced in Johannesburg on Thursday that by 2016, 25 new models, including the popular Mustang, will be available at dealerships across the two continents. According to Jim Benintende, Ford's president for Africa and the Middle East, the number of driving age people in Africa alone will jump 300 million to 840 million in the next 10 years. Among the lineup of cars, Mustang is front and center. Mustang has been one of the most popular sports cars in the U.S. Sales peaked in the 1960's when the car was thought to be both trendy and affordable. It lost some popularity in the recent years because of competition from Japanese automakers. In 2013, a redesigned Mustang was launched with similar exterior but upgraded technology. 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of Mustang's debut. Ford said it wants to bring an American classic across the globe. TheStreet's Julia Sun reports from New York.
