Ford, General Motors and Toyota Post Falling July Auto Sales
Some of the biggest automakers posted declining July auto sales on Tuesday. Ford (F) - Get Report sales slumped three percent in July, compared to the same month a year ago, to 216,479 units. Truck sales rose five percent while van sales gained 26 percent. Last week, Ford said it doesn't expect U.S. annual auto sales to increase in 2016, a trend that had been occurring since 2009. General Motors (GM) - Get Report sales fell two percent year-over-year to 267,258 vehicles, driven by slumping Chevrolet sales. Buick, GMC and Cadillac sales grew during the month. Toyota Motors (TM) - Get Report sold 214,233 cars in July, a 1.4 percent year-over-year decline, driven by falling Lexus sales. Corolla sales rose five percent in July. Fiat Chrysler (FCAU) - Get Report bucked the trend, posting a 0.3 percent increase in July auto sales to 180,727 vehicles, though its U.S. sales slipped two percent. Sales for its Jeep and Ram Truck divisions gained five percent. TheStreet's Scott Gamm reports from Wall Street.
