Ford CEO on Yen Impact, Tough Europe, 'Difficult' Russia
Ford Motor CEO Mark Fields says 2014 will end up being a very strong year for the automaker but challenges around the world, out of its control, illustrate the issues that come with being a global automaker. In the last few months, Fields says business in Europe has 'plateaued' and is 'a bit weaker.' In Asia, 'Japanese automakers are continuing to benefit from a windfall' because of a weakening yen but Fields says Ford is focused on 'running our business the best way we can.' In Russia, Fields says the business environment has continued to worsen because of the weakening ruble. One bright spot is China where Ford has seen sales surge 22% so far this year. Fields says Ford will open three new plants in China within the next nine months to meet increasing demand. TheStreet's Ruben Ramirez reports from Dearborn, Michigan.
