For Holiday Shopping, Low Gas Prices, More Jobs Benefit Consumers

The holiday shopping season is heating up, just as gas prices are trending downward, putting some extra cash in the pockets of consumers. Analysts say low gas prices are expected to add $40 billion to the budgets of consumers. A Deloitte survey says consumers are expected to spend $1,299 on gifts, a 13% increase from last year. The report also shows Americans will purchase more gifts for themselves, in a sign of consumer confidence. TheStreet's Scott Gamm speaks with Jonathan Rothman, a partner at Deloitte and its U.S. audit retail and distribution leader, to talk more about holiday shopping and the economy.
