First President Trump Took on Lumber. Now He's Targeting Steel Imports
The move comes as U.S.-China trade talks ended with the cancellation of a joint press conference
The U.S. President has indicated that his administration could turn its focus to steel imports. Donald Trump told a reporter at Reuters on Wednesday that a tariff on steel imports "could happen".
After taking office, Donald Trump began a Section 232 review of the U.S. steel industry. That review has not yet been completed by the Commerce Department. A Section 232 review would allow for tariffs on imports if they were deemed to threaten national security.
The move comes as U.S.-China trade talks ended with the cancellation of a joint press conference. There are concerns that the US & China are growing apart on issues such as market access and tariff reductions.
