Fidelity Labs revealed a new software program called ‘StockCity,’ a virtual-reality landscape dotted with skyscrapers representing the stocks in a person's investment portfolio. Investors can view this virtual world on their computer or in 3-D using an Oculus Rift headset. StockCity's architecture changes with the fluctuations on Wall Street. The heights of the buildings are determined by the prices of the stocks in an investment portfolio, while the widths are based on the number of outstanding shares. The sky goes from sunny to cloudy to rainy depending on the overall market. Eventually, little birds might fly over buildings of stocks mentioned on Twitter and traffic may back up on the streets in front of skyscrapers that represent stocks experiencing heavy trading volume. It’s all part of an innovative way to help young people get a better understanding of how to invest in their financial future.
