Janet Yellen has called for more diversity among the ranks of global economists. The Federal Reserve chair is the latest high profile figure to raise awareness of the lack of diversity within the profession. Yellen is the first woman to head the central bank in its hundred-year history. She observed that relatively few women and minorities are majoring in economics at college or reaching the highest levels of the financial world. The Fed Chair said that diversity among market players is critical in spreading financial risk. She also added that economies develop and become more stable through diversification.
