FCC Set to Take up Net Neutrality and What Consumers Will Pay
The FCC is set to begin hearings on the issue of 'Net Neutrality' on Thursday, and one of the big questions is whether broadband delivery will be considered more of a utility.
The Federal Communications Commission is set to begin hearings on the issue of 'Net Neutrality' on Thursday. At issue is whether broadband providers can charge big entertainment companies more to stream their content at faster speeds. TheStreet's Media expert and Deputy Managing Editor Leon Lazaroff explains that while large entertainment companies, like 21st Century Fox and Walt Disney will be able to afford higher broadband rates, those who could get hurt are smaller startups who may not be able to afford the higher prices for faster broadband speeds. Lazaroff says one of the big questions is how much the FCC will consider broadband delivery more of a utility.
