The FBI and Canadian police force are now investigating the large scale hack and data theft carried out on adultery website Ashley Madison last month. The hackers, calling themselves 'The Impact Team,' have released names, email addresses, dating preferences and some credit card details from over 36 million global user accounts. Avid Line Media, the company which owns the platform for cheating spouses, said that the illegal data breach caused by hackers would 'have real consequences for innocent citizens who are simply going about their daily lives.' The Toronto based company added in a statement, 'We will not sit idly by and allow these thieves to force their personal ideology on citizens around the world.' Security experts are nervous that the stolen information could lead to blackmail, Phishing attacks and identity theft.
