Family Dollar Q4 Beats Street on Top Line, Misses on Bottom

Family Dollar posted fourth quarter earnings of $.73 a share on revenue of $2.61 billion. Wall Street analysts were looking for $0.77 on sales of $2.58 billion. Last year, Family Dollar earned $0.86 per share on revenue of $2.5 billion. As for details, comparable store sales for the 13-week period increased 0.3% as a result of an increase in the average customer transaction value, which was partially offset by fewer transactions. Sales in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 were strongest in the consumables and seasonal and electronics categories. In light of the company’s pending merger with Dollar Tree, Family Dollar is not providing financial guidance for fiscal 2015. TheStreet's Gregg Greenberg has details from New York.
