British author E.L. James' erotic romance 'Fifty Shades of Grey' is the first installment in the Fifty Shades trilogy. The movie, released February 2015, stars Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, who plays a college grad who begins a sadomasochistic relationship with a young business magnate Christian Grey, played by Jamie Dornan. Both the books and the movie trace the relationship between Anastasia and Christian as they explore bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, and sadism masochism. Originally, Fifty Shades of Grey was self published as an e-book and print-on-demand. After publishing rights were purchased by Vintage Books, in 2012, Fifty Shades of Grey topped best-seller lists worldwide.
