Facts You Should Know About the Evolution of the Smartphone and Mobile Industry
The contemporary smartphone evolved from the PDA or Personal digital assistant. The IBM Simon is considered the first smartphone which combined a telephone and PDA all in one device. It was released in 1993. Meanwhile in 1997 Ericsson was the first brand to use the term 'smartphone' to describe its GS88 model. The same year, both Sharp and Kyocera integrated cameras into mobile phones for the first time. As technology got more sophisticated, manufacturers experimented with connectivity. 1999 was the year NTT DoCoMo launched the worlds first mobile Internet-services platform in Japan. The same year Benefon launched the first commercially available GPS integrated into a phone. The technology certainly has come a long way. Today smartphones are ubiquitous with mobile communication.
