Currently, the sponsored content seen in the newsfeed and along the sides of the browser are determined by the user's activity on Facebook such as page likes and general demographics such as age and gender. Now Facebook is introducing ad preferences, allowing users to look at the dossier of information the social network has compiled on each individual. But, as the company gives more control, so does it take it away; Facebook will soon also be able to monitor the websites and apps members use, even if they're not Facebook-related.
