Expert Tips on the Best Time to Buy Airline Tickets and Save on Travel
Holiday travel is just around the corner, and Pauline Frommer, editor of the iconic Frommer travel guides, tells TheStreet’s Jill Malandrino a new study shook up conventional wisdom in the industry. Typically, travelers who booked travel on Tuesday spent the least amount of money and now those who book on Sunday save 19% versus weekly bookers, based on a study of 130 million airfare transactions. People are also booking farther out to get better deals and 57 days is the sweet spot for domestic travel and 171 days for international. In terms of baggage fees, there is really no way to avoid them unless you are a member of an airline rewards program. Frommer suggests as much carry-on luggage as you can bring, and if you must pack a bag, get travel insurance. In addition, there are other alternatives for less expensive lodging for families looking to save on travel.
