Events That Could Force the Federal Reserve Off the Sidelines in 2020

Time to talk Fed.

The Federal Reserve is expected to stick to the sidelines in 2020, but certain things may be able to push them into the spotlight. 

So, what exactly could those events entail?

Bob Doll, chief equity strategist at Nuveen, joined TheStreet to talk about the Fed in 2020.

When asked what could push the Fed to take action, Doll had two key events in mind.

"Well, on either side we could have an event. Let's say, for example, inflation begins to move higher view wage growth or something else. The fed will be forced to step in. Conversely, if the economy really weakens, let's suppose because of the oil crisis with Iran, that would cause them to have to move then in the other direction, but neither high probability events," said Doll.
