European Commission Takes Issue With Facebook Acquisition of WhatsApp

Facebook has to respond to questions raised by the European Commission over its 2014 takeover of WhatsApp.

The European Commission is accusing Facebook (FB) - Get Report  of misleading it during the social media company's $22 billion takeover of WhatsApp back in 2014.  

Commission officials say Facebook supplied misleading information regarding the linking of Facebook user accounts to WhatsApp user accounts. Facebook has until late January to respond to the Commission's charges, which could result in a fine of about $240 million.  

In other news, Facebook messenger now lets you video-chat with up to 50 people. That compares to a 10-person limit on Skype and Google (GOOGL) - Get Report  Hangouts.
